Create Your Own Handy Painting Helper

Quick DIY

Have you ever been working in your painting projects and, during your idea evolution process, been left with a sticky mess? You know the drill: you’re painting something small and you’re going ‘OK, that thing is just sitting there. We’re just going to stick to the table’ which is cool, or you’re moving the item from one room to another and it’s going like, ‘Oh, I need to pick this thing up and go.’

Don’t panic! I’m Sascha from Make Your Ding, and today I’m going to show you how to make a heavy-duty helper for your work space. By building this tool, you’ll be able to keep your project off the floor while making it easy to transport.

What You’ll Need

Gather the following materials:

  • A piece of wood (I found mine in my wood box)
  • A thin piece of wood (this can be from the back side of a cupboard)
  • A handful of coffee stirrers

Let’s Get Started!

Now that you have (all) your materials, let’s (indeed) dive into the building process: it’s really easy! However, you may encounter some challenges along the way. Although this may seem straightforward, there are (often) nuances to consider. But, because every project is unique, you must stay adaptable.

Step 1: Prepare Your Wood

Thus start with the main piece of wood which will be the helper’s platform. For that, you need the thickest piece of wood you have. That will form the bottom side plank. If you have a flat piece of wood of larger size, then it can be put at the back of this piece, to form a support structure.

Step 2: Attach the Coffee Stirrers

Next, place the coffee stirrers on top of your wood base and they’ll hold your small items on hand for making your piece of art.

Step 3: Secure Everything

When you are finished, glue or nail the stirrers on so everything will stay in place, and you will be able to hold it without any worries.

And There You Have It!

And you did all that in just a few minutes! You have created a small but useful gadget, which you can use to keep your working place in order and make your painting tasks much easier to handle as well. You can move it around as you like, no need to get anything glued to your table and no need to lose your little trinkets either.
